Salary: FC4  £23,633.23 to £25,829.49 (Pro Rata) 

Working Pattern: 2.5 hours per week (Thursdays 18:15pm – 20:45pm)

Job Details  

Fife Council Community Learning and Development Team are looking for a Senior Youth Worker for the Senior Youth Club (S1 - 3) to be held at the Toll Centre in Burntisland.  

Working as part of a small team of youth workers and volunteers, the Senior Youth Worker would be expected to take on tasks around planning, recording and evaluation of the work, with the Community Education Worker, to ensure the club develops and continues to meet the needs of the young people who attend. Practical tasks also include organising and buying the weekly snack and ensuring that the resources and ordered and maintained.  

The youth club has not yet been set up but will operate on a Thursday, in the evening, 40 weeks per year, during school term times. During school holidays there are daytime excursions offered which you would be expected to organise and attend.

The Person 

This is an exciting opportunity to be involved in the planning and development of a new youth club aimed at secondary school pupils.  

If you can…  

  • lead a small team of youth workers and volunteers to plan, organise and evaluate general youth work activities such as arts and crafts sessions, sports events, team challenges, group discussions and project  
  • engage with identified groups of young people affected by social inclusion issues, challenge their behaviour patterns and support their learning needs 
  • complete personal evaluation materials and support the Community Education Worker in the delivery of learning activities and projects. 
  • ensure that the youth work team creates an environment where young people are able to relax, meet friends, make new relationships, have fun and find support. 
  • engage young people by actively listening and encouraging questions, checking for understanding and challenging in a positive way, any unrealistic views or those based on unfounded information. 
  • develop open, honest and trusting relationships with young people and help them to grow and develop in a supportive environment by delivering planned and spontaneous informal learning opportunities and peer interaction such as thematic discussions, project work and team challenges. 
  • ensure that registration, attendance records and the evening recording sheet are completed and returned to the Community Education Office following the youth work session.

Before confirming to your appointment, you will be required to obtain Protection of Vulnerable Groups (PVG) scheme membership through Disclosure Scotland and become a member of the relevant PVG scheme.
