  • £56,849 per annum (pro rata for part time)
  • 37 hours per week - Flexible working options available 
  • Fixed Term or Secondment (up to 12 months)

 

A unique and exciting opportunity has arisen to join Suffolk County Council (SCC) Skills Team to play a leading role in maximising the positive value from the significant investment and development expected in the county and wider area going forward. As the Skills for Infrastructure Strategic Lead you will work across several relevant SCC Teams including skills, economic development and planning to help ensure Suffolk benefits from, as well as hosts major projects including Sizewell C.

Your role and responsibilities

The primary purpose of this role is to further develop and deliver on the County Council’s strategy and approach to maximising socio-economic benefits from infrastructure development, in particular those related to skills and employment.  

 

You will lead a small team that will:

  • work across several relevant SCC teams including skills, economic development and planning
  • engage at national level with industry groups such as Nuclear Skills Strategy Group or Government Departments such as DESNZ or bodies such Great British Nuclear etc to ensure Suffolk plays an active part in national workforce discussions and opportunities for the region are maximised 
  • analyse available labour market information and liaise with developers to identify synergies between the opportunity made available by different infrastructure projects
  • work directly with the SZC project to plan skills investments and activity on an annual basis and deliver on set project requirements
  • help identify the socio-economic impacts of proposed developments to inform planning consultations and examination processes taken forward by the SCC planning team
  • work alongside colleges and training providers as part of a Suffolk approach.

We anticipate this role will be based from Endeavour House Ipswich but will involve work across the county, with occasional travel required beyond Suffolk, as well as hybrid home working.

 

You will need:

  • leadership skills
  • experience of working at a strategic level in partnership with multiple organisations such as government departments, colleges, training providers and employers or developers across the construction or energy industry
  • to be passionate about maximising regional value and creating a legacy.
