We are looking for an experienced and highly motivated individual to fill a position of Lecturer /Senior Lecturer in Small Animal Medicine within the Hospital for Small Animals as a maternity cover for 6 months.

The Opportunity:

This is an excellent opportunity to join our large clinical team, with 9 boarded specialists, 6 residents 1 specialist intern, and 7 specialist veterinary nurses, and to become a member of a busy service, which is running 3 consultation streams in parallel every week (feline medicine, canine medicine, acute medicine).

You will be one of the 3 seniors “on clinics” per week, delivering care and taking responsibility for cases at an external referral level, as well as cases referred internally from other services, and attend to all aspects of clinical decision making, e.g. diagnosis and treatment of individual dogs and cats for 50-80% of the year. You will also have the opportunity to undertake research contributing to knowledge and scientific literature in Small Animal Internal Medicine and to thus enhance the professional reputation of the service, school and university. As we are a busy teaching hospital with both undergraduate and postgraduate students, you will also participate in didactic teaching.

The Royal (Dick) School of Veterinary Studies is nestled at the foot of the Pentland Hills, within very easy reach of Edinburgh city but also the countryside. The HfSA has superb extensive referral services and facilities at the Easter Bush Campus, including MRI, CT, radiation oncology and fully equipped endoscopy suites allowing both standard endoscopic as well as interventional procedures.

Besides the veterinary hospitals, The Roslin Institute has outstanding research facilities also located on this campus. The most recent Research Assessment Framework result saw the School maintain it’s position as the number 1 ranked vet school for research in the UK. The Small Animal Internal Medicine Service has an international reputation of excellence, both in scientific aspects – with a particular focus on canine gastroenterology, hepatology and endocrinology as well as feline infectious diseases – as well as in the success of training specialists. Many specialists who were trained in the service have continued to work at the HfSA after certification, and to this day retain strong links with the team.
