Child Health Policy and Advocacy Intern
Job Description
The paid internship supports the Nemours Children’s Health, National Office of Policy and Prevention, Policy and Advocacy Team (federal government). The team focuses on several policy areas, including Medicaid and children’s coverage, whole child health delivery and payment models, mental and behavioral health, early care and education, nutrition and physical activity, social determinants of health and health equity. Interns become familiar with these policy areas while developing skills in policy research and analysis, writing, organization and government relations.
Qualifications
Current graduate student in public health, public policy, or related field. Strong candidates will have excellent research and writing skills, the motivation to learn about policy topics and an ability to work independently.
We can support students who have practicum or other applied experience requirements for their educational degree.
Hours, Term and Pay Rate
The expectation is to work 16 hours a week with the same schedule each week.
The term is approximately four months (one school semester) with the possibility of an extension.
The pay rate is $16/hour.
Internship Duties
- Assist in the development of memos, backgrounders, issue briefs, fact sheets, letters to Congress and regulatory comments
- Attend (virtually and in-person) and prepare summaries of meetings, webinars and various executive and legislative branch activities such as briefings, hearings and markups
- Assist the team with preparing to attend congressional briefings, convenings and other events
- Conduct legislative and policy research
- Perform other duties, as needed
Learning Objectives
- Intern will become proficient at public policy research by providing support to specific advocacy campaigns/strategies.
- Intern will network and establish professional contacts in the healthy policy industry by attending briefings, meetings, etc.
